Bert Lasseel begon zijn pianostudie serieus te nemen toen hij in 2017 toegelaten werd op de kunsthumaniora van Oost-Vlaanderen (Muda), waar hij onder begeleiding van Dorothea Haers met vrucht afstudeerde in 2020. Hij kreeg er ook de de kans om een extra discipline op te nemen, waar hij zijn ambitie voor compositie kon botvieren onder de begeleiding van Simon De Poorter. In 2021 nam hij deel aan de Nadar Summer Academy waar hij onder begeleiding van Daan Janssens zich verder compositorisch heeft kunnen ontwikkelen.
Als klassiek pianist behaalde Bert zijn bachelor diploma (2023) bij Daan Vandewalle aan het KASK & Conservatorium van Gent met een recital dat exclusief muziek uit de 20ste eeuw bevatte. Zijn Masterstudies zullen zich vooral focussen op het oeuvre van O. Messiaen in solo en kamermuziekverband. Verdere focuspunten zijn de Russische avant-garde uit de 20ste eeuw, in het bijzonder S. Prokofiev als ook P. Hindemith en A. Webern, en de nogal obscure Japanse componist M. Hamauzu. Met dit repertoire volgde hij al meermaals masterclasses bij Ralph van Raat.
Aan het Concervatorium staat Bert in nauw contact met de compositieklas, waar hij nieuwe composities van de studenten uitvoert en opneemt. In de zomer van 2023 nam hij deel aan de eerste editie van “The Exploratory: Venice New Music Courses”, waar hij masterclasses genoot van o.a. Nicholas Isherwood, Abbie Conant, en Joëlle Léandre.
Bert Lasseel began to take his piano studies seriously when he was admitted to the Arts High School of East Flanders (Muda) in 2017, where he successfully graduated in 2020 under the Dorothea Haers. He also had the opportunity to pursue an additional discipline, allowing him to channel his ambition for composition under the mentorship of Simon De Poorter. In 2021, he participated in the Nadar Summer Academy, where he further developed his compositional skills under the guidance of Daan Janssens.
As a classical pianist, Bert earned his bachelor’s degree (2023) under Daan Vandewalle at the KASK & Conservatory of Ghent, with a recital that exclusively featured music from the 20th century. His Master’s studies will focus primarily on the works of O. Messiaen, both in solo and chamber music contexts. Other focal points include the Russian avant-garde of the 20th century, particularly S. Prokofiev, along with focusses on P. Hindemith, A. Webern, and the somewhat obscure Japanese composer M. Hamauzu.
He has already attended several masterclasses with Ralph van Raat, focusing on this repertoire.
At the Concervatory of Ghent Bert often works together with the composition class by performing and recording their new compositions. In the summer of 2023 Bert attended the first edition of “The Exploratory: Venice New Music Courses”, where he had masterclasses by Nicholas Isherwood, Abbie Conant and Joëlle Léandre.
